The car ride was quiet even with him sitting across from me. Of course he’d gotten a car and a driver, like the alpha he was. The biggest thing would be to keep his image to the pack, and looking like he had all the money was exactly how he was going to do it.
I glanced at him every so often, but he kept his gaze forward. “What happens now?”
He finally looked over at me and shrugged. “You play the part.”
“So, it’s just an act?”
“It gives me legitimacy to be the alpha for your pack and will help others to do what I want.,” he said. “Plus, you’re pretty enough.”
“If you wanted to make a statement, you should have picked Katie,” I said and looked away.
“She would have wanted more. I picked you because you didn’t want this in the first place.”
“So, you don’t have to worry about someone trying to undermine your power,” I finished for him.
He gave me a smirk before looking away. “We’re here.”
I glanced out of the window to the largest house in town just as we pulled into the driveway that ran in front of the house. The home was more of a mansion than anything. I mean, I was expecting the alpha to live in the largest house there was, but this was bigger than even I imagined.
“You will have access to the entire house,” he said as he got out of the car. I sat there for a moment longer, taking in the huge home. It was white with large pillars on either side of the double doors.
I stepped out, pulling my dress up slightly so it wouldn’t hit the gravel under me. I may not have had a chance to pick the dress out, but I did want to keep it nice. It was something I’d never had before.
Liam didn’t wait for me and walked up the two stairs into the mansion. I took a breath and followed, hoping maybe things would be better once I got my baring with this damn marriage. I kept telling myself I was doing this for my family, even if it meant giving up everything I had planned for myself. Even if it meant I didn’t get to mate Finn.
“This is your home now,” Liam said as soon as I walked inside. “We will still need to interact and present as an alpha and his Luna mate.”
“I understand,” I said without thinking. The pit in my stomach got worse and felt like I might be sick. “Can I go?”
He glanced at me and nodded. “This is Laura. She’ll show you to your room.” He motioned towards another woman, who was dressed nicely, with a clipboard in her hand and a phone in the other.
“I’m here to help,” she said and started walking towards the winding stairs I hadn’t noticed on the far side of the entryway.
I let my eyes roam over the room at everything. The walls were light beige, with floor to ceiling windows lining one of the walls. I tried to see what was outside as we walked, and could see the red roses of the garden outside. They lined the walkways, and there was an exceptionally beautiful bush next to the matching white pergola.
We walked up the stairs with me holding the hem of my wedding dress up to keep from tripping. It wasn’t far down the hallway to the left to the room she motioned to that was mine.
“Don’t worry about your items. We sent someone to pick them up right before the wedding. Your mother should have packed them for you.” She glanced at her phone and then back at me. “I’m sorry, I have to take this.”
I nodded with a polite smile and opened the door to what was my room. My breath caught as soon as I stepped inside. The room was larger than my family living room, with floor to ceiling windows along the wall where the bed was. The bed was large and had beautiful light blue bedding already made on the bed.
On the left was a large closet with the door open slightly. All of my clothes from home were already hung up and taken care of. I guessed they were very efficient.
On the other side of the room was a television mounted on the wall over a beautiful dark wood dresser. At the top were a small mirror and the controls for the various things in the room.
I took a seat on the bed and sighed. This was my life now. I was mated to a wolf that didn’t want anything to do with me. I’d never have a true mate, and when my wolf finally comes forward to show me who my mate is, there will be nothing I can do. I will have to reject him for Liam.
I’ll have to reject him and be alone in a marriage I never wanted.
