I know I’m a giant no one in the big scheme of things. I write silly little books about romance and some about taking back your power. But after what’s happened these last few weeks, I can’t sit and say nothing.

I’ve been silent because I didn’t want to be someone that made anyone else feel like they weren’t welcome. Even as everything was changing and the world got darker.

I am changing that.

Three people are dead. They will never go home to their family. They will never feel a hug or a kiss from the people they love again. The people who love them will never hear their voice say their name.

But we can.

For them.

Kieth Porter. Renee Nicole Good. Alex Pretti.

Three people who did nothing wrong. They were using the rights given to all of us in this country and they died for it. If we stay quiet, it will only get worse.

There are others too.

Detainees that are in good health when they were detained and end up deported nearly dead. Or the children they are using to bait the adults to come out and be detained.

There are literal children in detention facilities right now. They are locked in rooms with nothing when they should be classrooms laughing and being with people who love them.

This has to end. I don’t know how to make it stop, but it’s not by being quiet. It’s not by waiting to see how things go or sticking your head in the sand, our heads in the sand.

We have to stand up and organize. Not to cause more pain and suffering but to try to help keep it from happening in the first place. Protest if you can. Document. Use your voice. Use your art. Anything you can.

Contact Indivisible to see how you can help in your area. We all can help each other and keep people safe and end this together.

P.S: If you are a supporter of ICE, don’t even bother reading my books or supporting me. I don’t want you here anymore. You are part of the problem and you should feel each and every one of these deaths as if you pulled the trigger.
