Wolf’s Obsession Chapter Two

I stood there in that almost empty room, glancing at the other woman, Katie, I think her name was. She was beautiful, like the kind of woman any guy would want more than anything.
She glanced at me, and a slight laugh escaped her lips. “Why are you here?”
I shrugged. “No idea.”
She raised an eyebrow and turned back to the alpha, who was chatting with what I assumed was his beta. They both shot their gazes from Katie to me and then talked some more before the alpha stepped from the stage.
“Each of you is a match for one of us,” he said. “One for my beta and one for me.” His gaze snapped to me, and I felt myself shutter at the attention.
“Obviously, there’s been a mistake,” Katie said with a slight laugh. “Ariana is a runt. She’s not suited for an alpha or a beta.”
“I’m with her on that,” I said with a slight laugh.
“Do you think the new alpha makes mistakes?” The blond said.
I closed my mouth and shook my head. “Of course not.”
“Good answer,” the alpha said with a slight smirk. “What’s your name?”
“Ariana Greyson,” I said and raised my eyes to his.
“My name is Liam,” he said, stepping closer. “You can call me that when I address you.”
“Yes, Alpha,” I said, and he pressed his lips together.
“This is my Beta and my brother, Marik,” he said. His gaze was intense, but I held it. The last thing I needed was for him to think I was weak. Especially not that I didn’t have a choice in what was happening. I could always reject the bond and tell Finn I wanted to mate him, but we’d be cut off from the pack. I’d lose my family.
“I’ve made my choice,” Liam said abruptly. “Ariana will be my mate.”
“What?” Both myself and Katie said at the same time.
He gave her a dangerous look, and I felt myself shrink a little. My heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces. I put my hand on my chest and shook my head.
“I can’t,” I whispered.
Liam shook his head. “Take your mate and leave us.” He glanced at Marik and then back at me. Once the pair was gone, he stepped closer. “If you reject me, you kill your own family. No one says no to me.”
I stared at him. Was he really threatening me? “You’d hurt innocent people because I rejected you?”
“I’ll do whatever I want. You are my mate, and you will be mine.”
I held his gaze and took a breath. “You wouldn’t be accepted if you hurt my family.” I didn’t know if that was accurate or not considering he’d won the alpha title through challenge, but I was willing to bluff and see if he’d back down.
“You think they would question my power if I hurt your family?” He laughed. “If anything, it would make them comply more, and then I’d take you by force.” He cupped my face and held it there. “I don’t want to, but I will.”
I stood there watching him, with visible shock on my face. He was telling me exactly what he would do if I didn’t comply. I licked my lips. “They would see you for what you are.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Tell me, what am I?”
I hesitated. Was I really arguing with an alpha who could take everything from me if he wanted? All he had to do was banish me and my family, and we’d be destitute, without anyone and unable to keep ourselves safe. “You’re a bully. You act like you can’t be touched and no one can hurt you, but I’ve known men like you. They’re weak and use fear to control people.” I took a breath after I’d finished. This was, no doubt, the end of me.
“What a mouth you have on you,” he said with a chuckle. “Maybe it won’t be so bad to have a luna after all.”
“What does that mean?” I snapped. And he smirked.
“It means you’re going to be a handful to deal with, aren’t you?” He raised an eyebrow.
This jerk had gone from murder to flirting in less than two minutes. I crossed my arms and shook my head. “Katie is the better choice for an alpha.”
He cocked his head. “Something tells me Katie would only be interested in my money and status, but you. I have a feeling everything I’m looking for in a Luna is wrapped up in your pretty little package.”
I sighed. “I don’t have a choice, do I?”
“Not if you want your family to be taken care of and alive.” His eyes met mine as he looked down at me. This was going to be a long life.
